Learn more about Dr. De Golovine’s work as an allergist.
Q: What made you choose a career in the medical field, specifically, as an allergist?
Dr. De Golovine: Initially, I went to medical school because I was always fascinated by the human body and its functions. Little did I know how rewarding it would become to be able to connect with and help people. It is an intellectually and emotionally challenging career that never stops surprising me. Because of my connections with patients at a personal level, I began to learn that my patients also suffered from severe allergies in the same way I did. When I go home at night, I feel fulfilled because I can truly understand my patient’s suffering, and I am dedicated to putting my energy into trying to help them. Being an allergist fits me perfectly! My wife and I are physicians and have devoted our lives to medicine, and each other, which is our goal in life.
Q: What is your favorite part about your job?
Dr. De Golovine: I wake up happy every morning to go to work. I love my job as a Houston allergist! I like the interaction with people. I make sure to dedicate enough time for each of my patients to examine them and hear their concerns. I love creating a hypothesis, coming up with a plan, and seeing the results. I enjoy seeing my patients smile and making them laugh when I can. My team and I are committed to creating an empathetic and warm atmosphere, which is crucial in healing. I love interacting with my colleagues and our clinic staff. We are like a family.
Q: Do you think most people suffering from allergies are not taking their symptoms seriously? Why do you think it’s important for someone to see an allergist when they are experiencing allergy symptoms?
Dr. De Golovine: Many people experiencing allergy symptoms become accustomed to them, even when they continue to cause them distress. They often don’t know that their allergy symptoms can be reduced through treatment. Take, for example, allergic asthma. As of 2020, the best treatment for achieving remission, or even potentially a cure, is allergen desensitization (allergy shots). For those suffering from allergy or asthma symptoms, we recommend consulting with us for treatment to help.
Q: What sets your allergy clinic apart from the rest when someone is considering your practice?
Dr. De Golovine: With over 50 years of experience, Houston allergists at McGovern Allergy & Asthma Clinic can treat even the most difficult cases and help find a solution for those looking for allergy and asthma relief. Our board-certified allergists are trusted in the medical community and work as teaching doctors at the Baylor College of Medicine and train internal medicine residents at the McGovern Medical School at UTHealth. We are a devoted team that is passionate about medicine and treating our patients with high-quality care!
