Houston allergists at McGovern Allergy & Asthma Clinic have provided high-quality allergy and asthma care since 1956. We are excited to welcome Dr. Zachary Marshall to our practice! Learn more about Dr. Marshall and his experience as an allergist.
Q: What made you decide to choose a career in the medical field, and more specifically as an allergist?
Dr. Marshall: My childhood dream was to be a physician, and the practice of medicine has always been my goal and passion. Likewise, allergy and immunology were natural interests for me, and I am fascinated with (and personally affected by) allergic diseases. I also had excellent physician mentors during my training, who helped me professionally develop in the field of allergy and immunology.
Q: What is your favorite part about your job?
Dr. Marshall: Caring for patients is undoubtedly the best part of my job. It is so rewarding and humbling to get a chance to be a part of patients’ lives, to participate in their healthcare, and to work alongside the patient toward accurate diagnosis and effective treatment of their health issues.
Q: Do you think most people suffering from allergies are not taking their symptoms seriously?
Dr. Marshall: I think most people don’t realize their allergies could be much better controlled – and I think many people do suffer needlessly with allergies. Allergies directly decrease quality of life and interfere with work, school, exercise, and home life. The field of allergy and immunology has seen incredible advances in the past decades, and highly effective treatment is available for many conditions today. I think managing your allergies with the help of a board-certified allergy-immunology physician is essential.
Q: What sets your allergy clinic apart from the rest when someone is considering your practice?
Dr. Marshall: I believe our clinic’s unique focus on providing evidence-based, personalized, patient-centered allergy care sets us apart from other practices – and this is why we have such a reputation for quality. As Houston allergists, our emphasis on the patient and the importance of the doctor-patient relationship has been a hallmark of this practice since its founding by Dr. McGovern over half a century ago.
Q: What is your philosophy in medicine?
Dr. Marshall: Effective medical treatment requires a personalized, patient-centered approach. As the physician, Sir William Osler, famously said: “The good physician treats the disease; the great physician treats the patient who has the disease.”
